Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video we show you how to replace a front exterior door handle on this 1998 Honda Civic. It's the same part and process on these Civics from '96 to 2000. We show you on the driver's side, but the passenger side is pretty much the same procedure. The items you'll need for this are a new exterior door handle from 1AAuto.com, a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, and a 10mm socket and ratchet.

Start off by removing this Phillips screw behind the door handle. Now pull your door handle back and out. Right here is your door handle rod. Just push this clip off of it and lift the rod up and out. On this harness, there's a tab underneath it. Just push it in and disconnect it. Remove this triangular panel at the top of your door panel. Pull firmly on this panel and it'll pop right off. You want to remove this Phillips screw, right here, as well as this Phillips screw, right here. We'll just fast forward as Don does this. Underneath the switch pack, you'll see these two harnesses. You want to just disconnect them. They each have a tab that you just have to push in on and they pull right out. Using a flat blade screwdriver, pry off your speaker cover and in these holes here you'll see there's three Phillips screws. Go ahead and remove each of those. Now, pull out along the edges of your door panel to release the clips and then lift the door panel up and off the door. Down by your speaker, you'll see this harness, just push in on the two tabs on the sides and it'll pull right out.

In behind the door handle, you'll see this green clip securing the rod to the door handle. You want to just disconnect that, and then the door handle rod will pull right out. Next, remove these two 10mm bolts and we'll fast forward as Don does this. Using a flat blade screwdriver, you want to pry out this lock rod from above the door handle. Again, with the flat blade screwdriver, pry up the clip from this lock be. You can pull the door handle out one side and the lock out the other. If this piece of clip gets left behind, you can just pry it off with a screwdriver.

On the right, is the old door handle; on the left is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they'll fit exactly the same. You do, however, have to switch over your lock assembly from your old door handle. Push the door handle into place. Put one of the 10 mm bolts back in to hold the door handle in place and then push the lock back into place and reapply that clip. Then, replace the other 10mm bolt. Then put your door handle and lock rods back into place and re-clip them.

To reinstall your door panel, you first reconnect that speaker harness and then you want to make sure your harness is run through that door there. Feed your lock through the door panel, set it back down into the windowsill, and then hit around the door panel to reactivate those clips. Reinsert and tighten up those three Phillips screws around the speaker. Replace the two Phillips screws under your pull handle. Put the door rod back into the door handle, re-clip it, and then plug your harness back into place. Push your door handle back in and slide it back and replace that Phillips screw. Reconnect your switch pack harnesses and then put the speaker panel, your door pull panel, and that triangular panel back into place. Then you're all set
