Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video we're going to show you how to replace the rear door handle on the driver's side of this 2005 GMC Savana 2500. It's the same process on the 1996-2010 Savana's and the Chevy Express. The only tools that you'll need for this are a 10mm socket and a ratchet.
With the doors open, what you'll want to do is just pry off this inner door panel here. All you do is stick your fingers on the edge of it and pry out. Just give it a sharp tug and do this all the way around the door to free up all those clips. We'll just fast forward here as he undoes all those clips and pulls that door panel off.
Now inside the door here on the back of the door handle, you can see there are two clips here: one there and then one right next to it on the left over there. These are actually really simple to unhook. To do this all you do is pull back on the clip and it just comes undone and you do the same thing to the other one. You can use a flat blade screwdriver and just poke it through that hole and do it too, but you can actually do it by hand as well.
Now you can see there are four 10mm nuts in here. You just want to remove those. With those removed you can now just pull this handle out. You need to twist it once you get it a certain amount of the way so that those clips can come out. You just pull it free.
Now put your new one back in. You want to put it in sideways so that those clips fit in. Then you want to turn the door handle once you get it to a certain point and push that into place. Then start reinserting those 10mm nuts. We'll just fast forward as he does this.
Now, you want to reclip those clips. Just put the rod into the clip and close it. You do the same thing for the other ones. Now line up your door panel and hit the clips in all the way around the door, and you're all set.
