Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video on this truck we've got a code for a malfunctioning knock sensor, so we'll show you. We went underneath, investigated, and found that the wire was broken, so we just went out, got a new connection end and then spliced it back in and set it back up. Now the truck runs with no codes flashing.
Right up here is the sensor I will be replacing. I have a 7/8 inch fitting wrench. Put it up onto the O2 sensor. Then I'm going to use another wrench. Put it on there. That will give me some extra leverage. The exhaust is hot still. That will hopefully help me get some more . help it break free. It's not breaking free the easy way.
Right up in here, we can see this is our knock sensor. You can see the problem right off the bat. There is no wire. This is the insulation. Pull the wire out. There's the wire. The wire is broken. We'll just remove this. Squeeze here with both fingers. That comes off.
We've got a new connection. We're going to splice it on. We've got our wire stripped just about 1/4 of an inch off. Insert that into our splice. Take our crimping pliers and put a nice crimp in both the connector as well as the insulation. That's nice and secure. Here's my wire here. We've stripped off the same thing on the end. We'll insert that into our splice. This wire insulation actually really shouldn't be wired high on there. It causes too much stress on this wire, and that's why it broke in the first place. So, we'll wrap that back around. We'll just fast forward here a little bit as we just put that insulation onto the new wire. Tape it and plug it back in. Just position that insulation so it protects from chafing.
