Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and reinstall the engine air filter in this 2006 Chevy Impala. It's pretty much the same for any 2006 to 2011 Impala. No tools are necessary.
All right, you'll find the engine air filter housing assembly right here on the driver side, and there are two clips that keep the cover on. We're going to go ahead and pop those clips off and then push the lid off.
In order to get a little bit more room to get that engine air filter out, we're going to remove the intake hose that goes to the throttle body into the mass sensor. Locate the screw clamp on the mass air flow sensor. Here, I'm going to use a flat head screwdriver to remove the hose clamp. Over the years, if something's been replaced in there, the hose clamp can be a little bit different so, be advised, you might have a Phillips head there, not a flat head.
Go ahead and unhook your mass air flow sensor and remove the rubber hose that goes to your throttle body into your mass air flow sensor. Pull that out of the way and then you've got plenty of room to pull the air filter out.
Install the new air filter. Make sure it sits flush. Going back in, you'll notice the two tabs on the bottom of that housing cover, and they're going to go into corresponding holes in the other part of the air box, right there. You want to make sure that those slide in before you clamp it. Make sure that you're not pinching any of the wires. I'll go ahead and fast-forward as I do that. Secure the two clips. Go ahead and reinstall the rubber hose that goes to the mass air flow sensor and use your screwdriver and tighten down on your hose clamp. Then, once you've done that, don't forget to plug in your mass air flow sensor.
