How to Replace Electric Air Pump 2009-16 Mercedes E350

Hey, friends. It's Len here from 1A Auto. Today, we're gonna be working on our 2011 Mercedes E350, and I wanna show you how to replace your electric air pump. If you need this or any other part, check us out, 1aauto.com. Thanks.

Let's lift this up. It's got a couple little clips back there. Set that aside. Let's get this hose off of here. Set that aside. This one might be a little harder. I'll probably just leave it on for now. So, what we need to do is we need to get this bracket off that's holding the pump. There's a Torx head screw right here, and then there's several under right under here that we're gonna remove as well.

To do that, I'm gonna use this. It's a T30 or Torx bit 30. Put it in there. Another one right here. I'll give you a better view of where these are once I get the bracket out. There should be another one, little lower down, almost right alongside of that pulley, right here. At this point, the bracket's getting nice and loose. All right. Just gonna take a small pocket screwdriver. Come right here. Just wanna try to break this hose free. Get it so it all wants to come off. Last one. You wanna lift up as well. Okay. Carefully lift this. Awesome. So we can see the connector here. There's a couple little squeeze tabs. Just squeeze those. It should lift up these ears. If it doesn't lift up enough, you can just use your pocket screwdriver again. Just help it along. Pull that off of there. All right. Let's move along to taking off the rest of this bracket.

All right. So now, we're gonna take out these three mounting bolts. They just hold the pump to the bracket. There's our pump, friends. Just show you what these look like right next to each other. We have our original electric air pump. Then we have our brand new quality 1A Auto one. You'll notice they're both the exact same. I don't see any reason why we shouldn't install it. So, let's do it.

All right. Let's get this bracket mounted on here. Awesome. Let's take off our little covers here. These just keep debris out of here during shipping. Okay. You'll notice you have these little hoses. What I'm gonna do is I'm just gonna lift those up. I'm gonna try to slide this bracket down and in between there, and just bring it down into place. As we bring it down, you wanna be very careful for those plastic hoses that we're moving out of the way. Obviously, you wanna make sure that they're not being pinched. Those look very good. As we slide it down, we wanna put this hose onto the pump. Might have to work it a little bit, but it'll go. Just get it as far up on there as possible. It needs to line up with this right here. Almost. That's the stuff. Perfect. Okay. Double-check those little lines or hoses, whatever you wanna call them. We do not want those getting pinched. I think they look great. Put this there.

All right. So, you'll notice with your screws you have two that are nice and short. And you'll have two that are quite a bit longer. You wanna pay special attention to that because you need to put them in the right places. One of the long ones goes right up top here, and it holds this bracket to the bracket on the engine. Okay. Let's get that started in there. That's good.

If you come down here, you're gonna have the other area where your bracket comes down. The other long bolt is gonna go all the way down here to where the bracket mounts onto the engine down there, okay? And the two short bolts are just gonna go right here. They hold this little tintype bracket to the bracket that we attached to the pump itself. The long bolts hold the electric air pump bracket to the engine, right? So, that's why they're extra long and then the shorter ones just kinda hold the little tin bracket to the air pump bracket.

So, as you're trying to line this up, you're gonna have to move it around a little bit to try to line up the holes. So, we're not gonna tighten any of them down completely until we have them all started. Okay. Both those two long ones are started in, so those are the bracket to the engine. Now, we're gonna do the short ones which just hold the tin bracket to the air pump bracket. So, let's just get these snugged up now. Okay, that's bottomed out. Just give it a teeny bit more. And down here, I'm gonna do the other long bracket bolt. Okay, it's bottomed out. Just give it a teeny bit more. We'll come up here and do these other two small or smaller bolts. I'll say. Bottomed--teeny bit more. Last one. Okay, bottomed out, teeny bit more. Awesome. We have our electrical connector here. Slide that on and push it until you hear it click. There it is. Give it a nice wiggle just to double-check. Grab our hose, all right, and slide this right in there. You've got your arrow matching with your arrow. Obviously, it doesn't go like that. Just like this, take this part, put it onto the air pump. Beautiful. We're gonna take our cover, slide it right over like this. Just give it a couple loving bonks.
