How to Replace EGR Pressure Feedback Sensor DPFE 2001-02 Ford Ranger V6 4-0L

In this video, we're going to be working with our 2001 Ford Ranger 4.0-liter V6. We're going to be showing you how to change our your differential pressure feedback EGR sensor or DPFE. This part senses the difference in pressures from your intake manifold and your EGR flow. This allows the engine to regulate that flow and the amount of EGR or exhaust gas that is recirculated into the engine. If this is allowing too much to go through, your engine is going to get a lean misfire and have a slight hesitation at idle or part throttle cruising.

The only things you'll need for this repair are a new DPFE from 1AAuto.com and your hands.

The DPFE sensor is located just down the EGR tube on the driver's side of the engine. We're going to push down on this tab. Release the electrical connector from the sensor. You simply grab it, and carefully work it out with the rubber hoses.

Here we have our old part that we removed from our vehicle and our new part which we got from 1AAuto.com. As you can see, these parts are nearly identical: same size and shape, same fittings for both the high and reference sides of this sensor, as well as having the same electrical connector.

This DPFE sensor senses a reference pressure from the intake manifold of your vehicle and an exhaust pressure on the high side here, which shows how much exhaust your EFR is circulating through your engine. This gets sent back to the computer, which then regulates the actuation of that EGR valve and allows more or less exhaust gas through as necessary. As these start to fail, you may feel a slight hesitation or stumble at idle or part throttle cruising in your vehicle.

While it may not cause a check engine light, an overflow of exhaust gases is creating a lean misfire inside of the engine, which is what produces that slight hesitation or stumble. These will rarely set off a check engine light until they have completely failed and the computer receives no signal, as opposed to an incorrect signal from them. If your vehicle has a slight stumble or hesitation at idle and part throttle light cruising, you DPFE sensor may be at fault. If you've narrowed it down that this sensor is what's causing your problem, then this new part from 1A Auto is going to go in direct fit, just like your original equipment and fix you up right.

We install the DPFE sensor into the rubber lines. Simply line it up, nice firm press down to make sure that it seats in there fully. Reinstall your electrical connector. Start the truck, and make sure that it has eliminated the stumble and hesitation when the vehicle is idling.
