In this video, we're going to be removing the door lock cylinder on this 1986 Camaro Iroc-Z, a pretty easy procedure. It basically involves removing the door panel and then removing the cylinder. Tools you'll need are T27 and T10 torques drivers, medium and small flat blade screwdrivers, an 8mm wrench or socket and ratchet, door panel clip tool, a putty knife, and those are basically all the tools to get the door panel off. Then beyond that, you just need a larger flat blade screwdriver to help with the door lock itself.

To replace the lock cylinder and to remove the lock cylinder for painting, first you're going to want to remove the door panel. I'm showing it here in fast motion. If you want to see this in regular speed, just check out our other videos for the Camaro door panel removal and you can see it there, although you can probably figure out enough to see that it's a few screws. Unhook some of the switches and then carefully pry out on a bunch of pins and then the panel up and off.

For the lock cylinder you feel up in here and you can feel all the way to the cylinder. You'll feel a clip holding it on. Take a nice thick, 5/16 inch screwdriver and with this hand, I'm driving it right up between the lock cylinder and the clip. What I did was I pried out on the clip a little bit, got it to move, and then I forced it up, and then I was able actually to flip it off with my hand. See if I can find the clip here. It fell down. Here's the clip. Now you can see, the lock cylinder will come right out. Our rod is still on there. You can see down in and see that our rod is still locked on there. I'll reach up there again. I can pretty easily feel the clip, push the clip off, and there's your lock out. This is the clip. The rod just goes right up and in. This clips onto it. You pull it back and pull the rod out. This lock is in pretty rough shape. You clip this, and basically lock it like that, so you want to guide that screwdriver up, kind of pry it a little bit. Maybe you can push on it with the screwdriver and then you can usually pull that off with your fingers the rest of the way.
