Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the battery on this 2003 Mercury Mountaineer and the only tool you'll need for this is an 8mm socket and ratchet.
Start off by loosening this 8mm bolt on your negative battery cable and then just pull the cable free, and do the same thing on your positive battery cable, and then just lift this cover up and off, and then remove this 8mm bolt right here. We'll fast forward as Mike does that. Now, lift that battery hold-down up and out and then remove your battery. It's not required, but it doesn't hurt to vacuum out your battery holder.
Take your new battery and lower it down into place. You want to make sure that handle is pushed down before sliding your battery cover back down into place. Once you've got it lined up, push all the way down and then just replace that battery hold down and the 8mm bolt that holds that into place. We'll fast forward as Mike tightens that up. Then, replace your positive battery cable, and tighten it up, and do the same thing then with your negative battery cable, and then you're all set.
