How to Replace Blower Motor Resistor 2004-10 BMW X3

Created on: 2020-03-12

This video shows you how to install a new blower motor resistor on your 2003-10 BMW X3.

Tools needed

  • Flat Blade Screwdriver

    Phillips Head Screwdriver

    T20 Driver

    Magnet - Extendable

Open the glove box. Just take a straight blade screwdriver. There's a little pin right here. Take that pin off. There you go. Take that pin off. And then there's a pin on this side as well. Take that pin out of that side as well. And we're gonna take these screws out. Phillips head screws. Use a Phillips head screwdriver. Pop this light down. Just use a straight blade screwdriver. Disconnect the connector. And just slide this out. Remove this wire right here. And there's another wire back here connected to this light right there. Just push on those two tabs, slide that connector off. I'm just gonna move this light. Slide that right here. Disconnect that connector right there. Just remove that wire. And now grab this panel and just try to slide it forward. And there we go. There's a couple ears holding the panel up.

There's a screw I need to take out right here. Need a long T20 to get it out. Down here, a screw right here. Take this screw out. Pull that screw out. Now, take a magnet and just go down here. Get that screw right there. All right, now you can slide this actuator out a little bit. You can just try to slide this out of the way. If you can disconnect that rod and disconnect the connector, it'd be ideal but you don't have to. Resistor is right here. Use a little screwdriver. Push on this tab and it slides right out.

Disconnect the connector right here. Just pull on the two tabs and slide it out just like that. Connect the connector to the new one. Lock it in place. And just line this up. There we go. And it's all the way down. Now, slide this other actuator in position. There's a little tab right here. Slide that tab in. Move this bracket to make sure that lines up. There we go. That's good. Make sure the bracket underneath lines up. Make sure this bolt hole lines up right there. Make sure that bottom screw lines up. Get that screw back in right there. Snug it up. Screw that's right there. Get that one started and snug that one up as well.

All right, take this panel. Slide this back in position. There's a clip over here. That needs to get in position over there. And the air ducts needs to get installed. Get that lined up. Then slide these right here. That looks good. Take this wire through there. Reconnect this light. Push the light back in. Clip it in place. Now take the glove box. Reconnect this connector right here. And resend the wires back where they were. And this connector is gonna go over to here. And put those wires back in the retainers. Just like that. And slide this in position. That's good. Make sure that wire comes through here so we can hook that light up. Lock it in place. And then take the screws, reattach the screws. Now I can reattach this door strap on this side. Line that up and then push the pin back through. And then do this side similar to the other side. You just need to pull this absorber out a little bit. It's kinda like a little shock absorber. It just slows the door when opening. And put the pin right through there. Lock it down. You're good to go.
