In this video, I'm going to show you how to remove and reinstall the fan blower resistor, which basically is the module that controls the speed of the fan on this 2004 Dodge Stratus, same as any '01 to '06 Stratus. If your resistor is going bad, you will get a fan that does not work on certain speeds. It may work fine on speed 1 but speed and 2 and 3 don't work and then speed 4 does work or any combination like that. That is the symptom of your resistor being bad. Tools you'll need are an 8mm socket with a ratchet and extension, as well as a flashlight and a 5/8 inch socket.

Starting in underneath your glove box, you need to remove this panel. There's a little nut here, as well as there should be one over here but it's missing on this vehicle. You want to use a socket head, put it up in there and remove that. It takes a 5/8 socket. We're up underneath. Right here is your resistor. There's a tab on this connector right here. Pull that tab, push the tab in and pull the connector down. I've changed angles and made it so I don't have to hold the camera and I'm using both hands to push the tab and pull the connector off. There's two 8mm screws: one there and one right there. I'm going to speed it up. I'm using an 8-mm socket with a ratchet and extension to remove those bolts. I apologize that the angles aren't the best. It is a little tough to shoot under there. Re-installation is the reverse of this procedure. The side with the slot goes toward the front of the vehicle. Put it up and in. I'll speed it up here as I tighten up those 2 8-mm bolts. You want to tighten them up nice and firm. You don't want to over-tighten them because you could strip the plastic out of the housing. Take your insulation and push it back in. Put that up. Take your nut and actually you can just push it on with your fingers, twist it a little bit into place and make sure this is all lined up over here. If you have your second nut, install it.
