Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the battery in a 2003 Nissan Frontier. It's the same operation for a model year 2001 through 2004. You'll need a 10 millimeter socket and socket wrench, or just a 10 millimeter open ended wrench.
Locate your battery on the passenger side front, right behind the headlight. You can see the negative terminal, the positive terminal, and the two 10 millimeter nuts that hold it down. By loosening up on those 10 millimeter nuts, you're lengthening the hold-down rod which has hooks on either side. Both of them have hooks. The one that I'm working on now here, and the other one on the other side of the battery. You're basically just lengthening that rod so that we can pull the hook out of the hole. You're going to do that for both.
As I pull up on that rod you can see the hook there. Then I'm going to do the same for the back. Here's an up-close view of those hooks, or the hooked rod there. You can see that and see how I pulled it out there and pulled it up. I'm going to go ahead and do that on the other side, as well. See how it just twists? Then you can pull your bracket out. I'm going to use that same socket and socket wrench to loosen up on my negative terminal first. Then once I've got that loosened up I'll take it off and put it out of the way. Then I'll go ahead and do the same for the positive side. Then once you've got both of those terminals off, go ahead and lift the battery out.
Go ahead back in with the battery. We're replacing it. Make sure that your terminals line up with the positive and negative. Then reinstall your positive side first, tighten it down. You can go ahead and follow it up with the negative side. Then take your strap, put it back down in, lower those rods. You're going to want to hook the rods back into the holes on the bottom, and hold them in place as you tighten it up. Here is an up-close shot of how those hooks should go in on the bottom of the battery hold down.
