Hey, friends. It's Len here at 1A Auto. Today I'm working on a 2001 Ford Focus, and I'm going to show you how to replace the antenna and the mount. It's going to be a very easy job and I want to be the guy that shows you how to do it. If you need these or any other parts, you can always check us out at 1aauto.com. Thanks.
Okay, friends. So we're inside the vehicle. You've got your dome light assembly here. We want to remove this center lens. So, you want to carefully grab it with your pocket screwdriver. Get ready to catch it. There's going to be wiring that's going to keep it from falling too far, but just in case, you don't want to put any tugs. If you needed to, now would be a great time to go ahead and replace any bulbs.
Right behind here is where the bolt is. Take off your antenna mount. What we're going to do first though is we're going to remove this Phillips head and this Phillips head and get this plastic down. That's going to give us a space right here. We'll come right up with our socket and extension and we'll remove it. I'm going to grab my Phillips head. Okay. At this point, the plastic's going to fall down. We'll help it down gently. There we are. We have a clear view of what's going on up in there. Now, I'm going to go grab my Torx bit socket. I'll let you know what size, and I'll show you how to remove it.
Okay. So I've got my Torx bit 25. It looks like a little star. It's going to go right up in here. Almost. There we are. This is the wire that leads down to your radio or stereo system. I'll grab that screw. I'll show you what it looks like. There it is. That's the head. Okay. We'll set this aside. We should be able to go right up top now. We'll grab that mount and ... Got it. Give it a little wiggle. It comes right out. It's got a little seal on there. Get some stuff right along here. Clean this up a little bit. And let's compare this to the new one, and we'll keep on rolling.
Here we are, friends. A quick product comparison for you. Over here we have our original antenna mount out of our 2001 Ford Focus. Over here we have our brand new, quality 1A Auto part. As you can tell, they're a little different. This one still has its little shaft. The antenna screw's on too. This one broke off. It's very common for these to break. Generally speaking, you'll have your antenna. It'll be screwed in there. Everything's nice and fancy. You give this a little bonk to the side. Maybe you're cleaning off your car in the car wash or in a snowstorm, wherever you might be. Give it a little bonk. The shaft breaks. It's very common for that to happen. The new ones of course come with a brand new shaft.
At that point, you're also probably going to want to replace your antenna because you're going to have a piece of the shaft stuck inside there. We sell both these parts. They just screw right together, just like that. Of course, you want to tighten it up a little bit more. We're going to mount it on first, though. With all that said, I don't see any reason why these wouldn't be quality parts to go ahead and install into the vehicle, so I'm going to go ahead and do it. If you need these or any other parts, you can always check us out at 1aauto.com. Thanks.
Okay. So we're up top. Just take a rag, clean it up. You can take a peek at what's going on up here. We've got a little bit of a buildup. It looks like corrosion coming in underneath the paint. That means moisture's been getting under there and rotting away the metal. So, at that point, you'd want to take action. You can use a little bit of silicone paste, go around there, or even a little bit of gasket maker. That'll just help keep moisture out from getting inside your vehicle. You don't want that moldy smell in there. A lot of people are allergic to it.
So, with that said, you've got your little piton here. That goes inside the rearward hole. And then the mounting hole of course will line up with the mounting hole there. So, I'm just going to take this. I'm going to line it up. This is going to sit just like this. Now, we'll go inside the vehicle, get the bolt lined up with the hole. Make sure it's still lined up top here, which it should be. And then I'll just snug it up, and we can continue.
We've got our bolt and our T20. I'm just going to go like this. I'm going to put it up through the wire. I'm going to bring the wire up to the hole. If you need to, you can have somebody hold that top piece. I'm just going to check it real quick. Yeah. Still looks good. Okay. It's snug. I'm just going to give it just a teeny bit. There we are. Okay. Now we're clear to get this all back together. It's going to be very simple. Just slide that up there. We're going to get these lined up into their holes where they're happy. It's not tight yet. I'm going to start both of these in before I go ahead and tighten anything down.
Give it a little wiggle. That feels great. We can take our dome light starting from the rear and we're going to go lock it into the front. That feels good. It's not wobbling around. We know they're both tight. We'll go up top now. Give this a little wiggle. Nice and snug. It's going nowhere. Make sure it's, yep, seated all the way around. Perfect.
We can grab our antenna, and we'll move along. All right. So, we're going to take our antenna. Get right up on here. Screw it right in. There we are. I'm just going to go like this with my pliers. I'm going to carefully just give it a teeny bit more. I don't want to go too far. The last thing I want to do is break this. There we are. I use the rag just so I don't scuff up the plastic. It's a nice car. I'd like to keep it that way. That looks pretty great. I'd say we're all set. Easy peasy.
