How to Replace Air Intake Hose 1995-97 Pontiac Sunfire

In this video, we'll be showing you how to replace the intake hose on this 1997 Pontiac Sunfire, same as any '95 to '97 Sunfire or Cavalier with a 2.2 liter and probably similar to most of those J-body cars from 95 to 05.

You want to replace your area take hose. Sometimes these can dry out, they can crack and/or during a repair or something, they can get broken. It's very important because it's the link between your throttle body and your air filter. You don't want dirty or foreign contaminants getting in there because that will ruin your air flow sensor and then you'll have a more expensive repair. It's fairly easy and I'll show you there's a connection back here that you need to undo. Just pull up with your thumb, and it comes off. For this, you can move it to the side or undo it. Pull that cable up and out. Then you're just going to need a regular screwdriver loosen up the clamps. You twist this a little bit and pull it off of there. Do the same thing over here. Loosen your clamp. Shake your clamp. Twist to pull the hose sone. That's probably because the PVC valve's here too. Then your hose is off.

Here's the original and here's the replacement from 1A Auto. You do need to transfer some of the parts, your clamps, this clip for the cable and this sensor, only to go into the new hose, but the hose is made just like the original. You have the provision for the PVC and everything, so if you've got a dry, cracked or broken hose, the new hose from 1A Auto, is going to hold up just like the original and fix the problem. For this car, this original is still in good shape so I'm going to re-install it. This is just a test case for the video.

Before we install, we're going to put it underneath the cable here and we're going to kind of push it on to the PVC here while we're working it, also under the throttle body. Kind of do those at the same time and you can see where it was on the throttle body, so you want to make sure you get all the way back on. It looks like the bottom is on. The top's having a little trouble. Maybe our clamp's not loose enough. There it goes, nice and easy. We're on there and now we'll work it right back on here. We'll tighten these up. We want to make these nice and tight. Actually you can really see here, a mark where the clamp was, and how tight it was. At least get back to there, which is pretty tight. Tighten this up. Put our cable back in and plug in our sensor.
