Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks!
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the mass air flow sensor on this 2002 Ford Escape with the 2-liter 4-cylinder engine. It's the same part and similar process on these Escapes from 2001 to 2004. The items you'll need for this are a new mass air flow sensor from 1AAuto.com and a T20 Torx driver or a ¼ inch wrench.
Your mass air flow sensor is right here. Just push the tab on this harness and disconnect it. Then the mass air flow sensor we're using to replace this one actually came with this T20 Torx security bit. You can either use a 1/4" wrench with this bit to remove those two screws or you can take a driver with replaceable bits and just put it into that and remove the screws that way. Then the mass air flow sensor will pull out.
On the right is the old mass air flow sensor; on the left is the new one from 1AAuto.com. You can see they're identical and they'll fit exactly the same. Just going to put just a little bit of oil on the O-ring. Lower your new mass air flow sensor into place. Make sure it's all the way down in and then replace those two T20 security screws. Just reconnect the harness.
