In this video, we're going to be working on our 2006 Ford Explorer 4.6-liter V8. We're going to show you how to remove and replace your engine air filter. This is an important maintenance procedure to ensure that your engine is constantly getting a good, full flow of clean air.

The only items you'll need for this repair are your hands and new air filter.

The air box is located on the passenger side of the engine bay all the way at the front. There are three metal clips you'll have to undo. Just lift up on the bottom latch and fold them over. Lift up on the inlet and slide it in toward the motor. Lift up and remove your air filter.

Now, ours has filled with debris, so we're going to take a moment to vacuum it out. You don't have to get the air box perfectly clean, but any dirt and debris you remove now is dirt and debris that won't find its way into your air filter. This prolongs life and improves performance.

Here we have a new air filter. You can see nice and white and clean. Our old one isn't awful, but you can see how much dirt and debris builds up in there. Replacing these regularly will improve the air flow to your engine. The more air you get the better and cleaner it's going to run. We'll drop our new air filter in. Push the box lid in. Lock the rear tabs into their slots. Lift the tabs back up and lock them down.
