Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the gas tank straps in a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. This particular tank is a 26 gallon, although the process is very similar for a 34 gallon tank.

We're going to show you the front gas tank strap, but the rear is very similar with the exception of the hook, which we will show you how to remove and reinstall. The items you'll need for this repair are a 16 millimeter deep socket, an extension, ratchet, and a torque wrench.

It is possible to replace the fuel tank straps without removing the tank as a whole, you'll just want to leave one side in tight while you remove the other side. You're going to need a 16 millimeter deep socket and extension, and a ratchet.

Loosen the nut on the tank strap you need to replace. Remove the nut. You may have to lift up on the tank a little, or give it a couple of taps to release the strap from the stud. Drop it down, lift up on the strap, pull forward, and down to remove it. Rear tank strap will come straight up, forward, and out.

Go back in straight up, down, and back. Reinstall the hook of the tank strap in, drop it back and down, wrap it around the tank and back onto the stud. Start the nut back on by hand. The farther you can get the strap to hang up on the stud, makes it that much easier to spin this back on. Finish tightening it down with a 16 millimeter socket ratchet and extension. Torque to 30 foot-pounds.
