Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks!
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the rear tail light. We're going to show you how to just service the bulb if you have a bulb out as well as if you damage the inner tail light. We'll show you how to replace the whole assembly. This is a 2007 Audi A4 but it's a similar procedure for Audi's of this vintage. The only tools you'll need are a flat blade screwdriver and a 10mm socket with a ratchet.
Open up your trunk and there is on each side a little trap door. Just kind of pry and get the corner and pull down. There's a little clip that just holds the door up.
If you're just looking to service the bulb, there are two white tabs that hold the socket in place. Pull out on each tab and pull the socket down. It gets caught on the grey trim as well, so it's just kind of a matter of working those tabs and pulling it down and out. Once you have it out, push in counterclockwise and the bulb comes out. A new bulb goes in. Push it in counterclockwise. A 10mm nut holds the assembly in place if you should have a broken inner tail light.
We sell a nice replacement at 1AAuto.com. You remove that 10mm nut which is part of a whole clip and then your light will push up and off. Then a new one from 1A Auto is going to install just the same way.
Put it down in place, make sure the gasket seats well and put that clip and 10mm nut back in place and tighten it up. I tighten it most of the way just using the socket and then put the ratchet on, just make sure it's nice and firm. I just made sure that the light was seated well, put the socket and bulb back in place, make sure it locks insecurely, press the trim door back up in place and you're all set.
