In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and reinstall a rear door panel on this 2001 Chevy Malibu, same as any '97 to '03 Malibu. Tools you'll need are Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, 7 millimeter socket with ratchet and extension, and a door panel clip tool or a putty knife.
Take a Phillips screwdriver. There's a Phillips screw right behind the door handle here. Remove that. That comes off. Gently pry up your window switch. On the back, there's a tab here. Push in and then up. Pull your connection off. There's a little trim bezel here. Pry it out with a screwdriver. Then there are two 7 millimeter bolts back in here. I'll just use a putty knife to kind of pull it out a little bit. Pull the door panel out so I can get my fingers back in there. Pull it, trying to work your way around to where the next clip. Pull. What just fell out of there are the little clips that hold my power window switch. Pull your door panel off. You can see one of our clips kind of stayed behind here. Use a pair of pliers. Pull it out. Then it just slides right back into our panel like that. Again, like you said, that ringing your heard as I pulled the door panel off, was these little clips, and these just slide into your window switch.
Reinstallation is the reverse of the procedure. Make sure you pull that power window switch wire through. Hang it up on top of your window sill there. You just kind of guide the clips all into their holes. It's just the matter of kind of getting an angle, looking in back in there. Basically, they usually they just need to be pushed up a little bit. Then push the clips in. Now, put that bezel around the door handle back on. There's a little insulator. Make sure that goes in there as well. There's a Phillips screw; tighten that up, and then the two 7 millimeter bolts that hold the door pull area. You'll see, as I do this second one, I get a little antsy and multitask a little bit. Put the switch in place at the same time and put it down into place. Then once those are firm, then put the bezel back in place and you're all set.
