In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and then reinstall the driver's side door panel on this 1998 Volkswagen Beetle. It's pretty straight forward. The only tools you'll need are a Philip's screwdriver, T20 torques driver and either a putty knife or a door panel clip tool. Okay, first you're going to pull, you may have to use a screwdriver, this is a household putty knife. You need to pull this panel out and off and you need to pull it straight out. Mine actually came off pretty easy. There's actually three clips here. It looks like somebody, they didn't pull straight and the clips all broke off. Then there are two Philip's screws behind here. Then underneath, you're going to find three T20 screws. Then once you get those off, use a door panel clip tool or a putty knife and you want to go in behind and pry out on your door panel. Mine's actually been apart so many times that it just comes apart easily. Then you lift it up off of the ledge and lock.
Okay, just because it wasn't to clear here. There are a series of clips or pins that hold the door panel to the door, around the perimeter; because my door had been apart many times they weren't really holding in that well. You will have to do a little more work to get your door panel basically unclipped from the door. You want to pull out on the door panel and then once you have it free then pull it up. Coming in behind, depending on what options you have, just disconnect everything. There's a connector here, just squeeze a couple tabs. Your cable for your door handle pulls out and then unhooks. All these connections just have a little tab that presses and you can pull them out. Then down here, pull these connectors off and the panel comes off.
To reinstall, just start from the lower front here. Reconnect our trunk. Up here is our window switch. Brown one goes in the back, black one connects up here to our mirror. This connects to our door lock switch. Our door latch goes on here, just hooks on. Okay then lock our cable into place. Then back here, this is the door lock light. Just make sure our button goes right and through. Now we can hang up our door panel. Press it and make sure that you have it up there and then you just find the ... You may have to lift up a little bit. Put the panel into place. Reinstall our T20 screws. I'm going to install our door pull screws. Reinstall...
