Hi, I’m Mike from 1A Auto. We’ve been selling auto parts for over 30 years!
In this video we will be removing and reinstalling an automatic transmission shift lever for a 2009 Chevy Suburban. If you need parts for you vehicle, click the link in the description and head over to 1AAuto.com.
Pull this cover off. Grab two fingers underneath and pull. Pull this cover off. There's a Phillips head screw right here. A retainer holder for this cover is broken just to let you know. Take this screw out over here.
There's a 10 millimeter bolt right here. You're going to use a 10 millimeter socket and extension and ratchet. Pull this bolt out. Pull that out. This slides back, pulls out. There's two little grooves right there. Going to grab this and just pull straight forward. Some of these clips are broken. Those are the retainers to fold it.
I'm going to pull this adjuster lever off for the steering wheel adjuster. Just pull it straight out. You can use a screwdriver if you need to. Next I'm going to grab on this cover and pull it straight down. Sometimes there's screws that hold the cover on. This one does not have screws. Pull the cover down here. Going to move the steering wheel down, pushing on the adjuster. I'm going to push up on this cover, pull out the front a little bit and then this will come off. Pull that out.
I’m going to take this boot, going to slide it out like that. Then going to disconnect this connector right here that's connected to this orange wire. I'm going to push on the connector and pull out. Then I'm going to feed this wire back this way. Then going to use a trim tool underneath here to pull the wire out. We sell these trim tools at 1AAuto.com. Going to use it on this one as well underneath there. Will pull this wire this way.
Now there's a torx screw that goes in here. Going to use a T30, an extension, and a ratchet. Pull the bolt out. Just going to pull straight up on the shift lever.
Sometimes these go bad because of the wire. Generally the wire will break right there. You just got to replace it. This is the tow/haul button and this is our gear range when you're in manual mode.
So we're going to reinstall this. I'm going to slip this back down on here. Reinstall the torque screw. Stick that in there. We'll use our T30, our extension, and our ratchet. Tighten it down.
Next we're going to run the wire through here. Then this wire retainers going to go in this hole over here. Push that in there. This ones going to go in this one. Then we're going to take our connector and then just line it up with the other connector and push it in until it locks.
Now we're going to put this upper cover back on. Take this boot, slide it down, slide it over the cover so that lines up with the channel. Like that. This will go down here. Push that down like that so then I'll slip that up. Take the lower cover, slide this in this shifter groove. Like that. Lock it in place. It's locked in. Good.
We're going to reinstall this lever like that. Take this lower shield, install this with the clips right there and right there. There should be one right there. Line that up, push it on. Take the parking release lever with these little grooves. Slide up and then slide forward. Then take the 10 millimeter bolt, the socket, and extension. Install it in the hole. Tighten it up. Tug that out.
Take our Phillips head screw and install it right here with the Phillips head screwdriver. Take this Phillips head screw and stick it right here. The bracket is broken off this panel. We're going to put this cover on like that.
