How to Remove Alternator 2009-19 Ram 1500

1. step 1 :Removing the Air Intake 0:26

   • Loosen the hose clamps on the air intake with an 8mm socket and ratchet
   • Disconnect the sensor electrical connector
   • Remove the air intake tube
   • Cover the throttle body with a paper towel
   • Pull the air intake housing clamps down
   • Lift the air intake housing cover
   • Remove the engine air filter
   • Lift the engine cover up and out
   • Remove the vacuum line across the air intake

2. step 2 :Removing the Serpentine Belt 4:18

   • Disconnect the 10mm nut from the negative battery terminal
   • Familiarize yourself with the route of the serpentine belt
   • Insert the 3/8 inch drive ratchet into the tensioner
   • Turn the tensioner clockwise to loosen the belt
   • Pull the belt off the alternator
   • Release the tensioner
   • Pull the belt off by hand

3. step 3 :Removing the Alternator 8:58

   • Remove the rubber boot from the ground nut
   • Remove the 13mm ground nut
   • Pry up the clip on the electrical connector, press the button and disconnect the connectors
   • Remove the two 15mm bolts from the alternator
   • Carefully loosen and remove the alternator with a pry bar

4. step 4 :Installing the Alternator 14:00

   • Spray the crushed grommet with rust penetrant
   • Tap the crushed grommet with a brass punch and hammer
   • Insert the alternator into place
   • Tighten the two 15mm bolts to the alternator
   • Connect the electrical connectors
   • Tighten the 13mm ground nut
   • Replace the boot

5. step 5 :Reinstalling the Serpentine Belt 21:38

   • Bring the belt over and around the fan
   • Bring it around the fan pulley
   • Bring it around the belt tensioner
   • Bring it around the water pump
   • Bring it around the idler pulley
   • Bring it around the power steering pulley
   • Bring it around the A/C Pulley
   • Pull the tensioner clockwise with the 3/8 inch ratchet
   • Pull the belt over the alternator
   • Release the tensioner

6. step 6 :Replacing the Air Intake 25:00

   • Replace the vacuum line
   • Replace the engine air filter
   • Replace the air filter housing cover
   • Pull the air intake housing clamps up
   • Remove the paper towel from the throttle body
   • Insert the air intake tube into place
   • Tighten the hose clamps with an 8mm socket and ratchet
   • Connect the electrical connector to the air intake tube
   • Connect the negative battery terminal with an 8mm wrench
