Okay, we're working on a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer here. This is probably good for any 2002 to 2010 Mercury Mountaineer as well as Ford Explorer and even the Lincoln Aviator.
Here are the basics of jacking it up. This is a full frame vehicle, so it has nice big frame members that run the full length of the vehicle. You can see I've got my lift supporting right under the frame here and under the rear of the frame here, so if you were to lift up the vehicle, that would be a good spot for jack stands basically at the corners of the frame.
If you're lifting, you want to lift the front. If you're going to lift both wheels at the same time, I'd put the jack under this large front member here, lift it up and then again, place your jack stands right in here.
If you just want to lift one wheel at a time, then you can jack it right underneath the control arm. Okay and then again, the safety stand would be right under the frame. Hold it, and the rear suspension is independent.
If you want to jack up both wheels at the same time, I'd probably just jack up one under the control arm, put your safety stand in, right under the frame. A better view of that. We got that lift right there, which is kind of under the frame in front of the wheel. That's right where we put the jack stand. Okay, so lift up one wheel, put the jack stand underneath and then come over, lift up the other wheel, put your jack stand underneath.
