How to Raise and Support 2010-17 GMC Terrain

Under the vehicle, there's a few spots that you can put a jack or a jack stand. You can see we have the lift on these spots. On the outside of the rocker panel, there's actually arrows pointing to where these safe spots are to jack up. Right here, you can see the arrow. That's exactly where we put the lift point. You can put a jack or a jack stand there as well.

On the rear, it's the same story. There's an arrow right on the rocker panel area. You can actually put the jack right inside there along the pinch weld. That's a safe spot to support the vehicle.

Towards the front of the car, most of this front subframe right here and along this side: it's all made of steel. It holds the engine into the car. It's pretty safe to jack up the vehicle on or put a jack stand under. You don't want to put a jack under anything that's aluminum. Like this right here, this is your transmission and transfer case right here and here. You don't ever want to put a jack or a jack stand under those. Right here is your oil pan, so you want to stay from that as well. You never want to jack up anything on aluminum.

There's also control arms. Control arms are typically safe to jack up the vehicle from, but jack stands are a little sketchy, because as you can see, they're at an angle. Sometimes they'll flex with the car. I prefer to always put the jack stands under something that's solid and doesn't move, like this subframe.

Towards the back of the car, there's more spots where you can jack up the vehicle. You can jack it up from the control arms. Again, I probably wouldn't put the jack there, but you could put a jack right under the supporting subframe because that's made out of solid steel. Then we also have these unibody braces right here and right here that would be perfectly safe to put a jack stand under as well, or jack up the vehicle with a floor jack.
