Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
If you want to lift up your Volvo XC90 with a jack and jack stands, I actually have it on a lift here. Underneath, in the rear here, there are some good reinforcements bolted right to the body. I generally put the jack right underneath there. What you can do is, if you just want to raise one wheel, you could jack it up by underneath the control arm here, or even underneath the shock here. Place the jack here and then put the safety stand on this reinforcement here.
You never want to jack underneath this pipe. You don't want to flatten that out. You could jack under here, which is a little bit more inboard. But generally, use these lifting points, jack of up here, and then use the safety stands there for the rear.
Moving over to the front, you can see I have my lift underneath where the engine cradle or the front suspension connects to the body. That's a nice reinforced point. You can also, if you want to just jack up one wheel, I'm going to look from the front here. You can place a jack underneath the engine cradle right here. Jack it up there, and then use your jack stands and support it for safety there. Never jack it up in the middle. This is just a plastic pan and the engine's right there. You'll damage your engine if you jack it in the middle. Again, you can jack it here, where it's nice and solid, not where it's plastic.
