Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

You can see I have my Passat up on a lift here. As far as a roadside flat tire, it's pretty easy. There's actually a little arrow indented into the rocker here and you can see I have my lift right underneath. This is one good spot to lift the vehicle. If you're looking to jack it up and remove a wheel you can also place the jack right underneath the spring here. You could lift the wheel off the ground here, and then place a safety jack stand right under here, to work on the vehicle. Do the same thing on the opposite side, lifting up here. You do not want to jack up on this here. It's not a good idea. If you're looking to lift both wheels off the ground and you only have a jack, lift one side, support it with a safety stand, then lift the other side and support it with a safety stand.

Heading to the front, you can see I have my lift, again, right under the rocker. There is actually a little panel here that you can pull out that just allows you to put a jack under there without hurting the trim on the vehicle. Under there is a good spot. If you just need to lift a wheel, where you're going to want to lift is underneath this steel carriage here. You usually don't want to put your jack underneath any aluminum control arms because you can damage them. You'll want to lift under this steel carriage here, again, lift it up here, and then you could put a safety stand under the body over here. Do the same thing with the other side. You can lift up under here. If you wanted to lift both wheels of the ground, you could lift up in the middle of this steel carriage. You absolutely do not want to lift up under here. This is the transmission pan. You don't want to lift up under here because this is the engine oil pan. You could lift up here, not in front, not behind.
