How to access and install your tow hook on 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 Subaru Forester
Hi, I’m Mike from 1A Auto. We’ve been selling auto parts for over 30 years!
If you ever need to have your vehicle towed for any reason, there's actually a spot here to put a towing eye. The towing eye should be located with your spare tire and tools. We're going to open up the hatch, and under here, we'll lift up this foam.
All the spare tire and tools are in here, inside of the spare tire. We're looking for this towing eye. I'm going to take that out. I'm also going to need the screwdriver that's included here. Take that out and put the stuff back down. This screwdriver actually works. You’ve got a Phillips on one end. If you pull it out and flip it over, you've got a flat head on this end. You will need something flat like this screwdriver that's in the tool kit. You'll have to slide it in here.
There's a small opening. Pop this door open. It's got a little tether so it will sit there. There's an opening inside the bumper area that this threaded part of the towing eye is going to thread into. We'll slide it right in. Just thread it in until it gets tight. It doesn't have to be perfectly level. You can do this a little tighter.
Now you can hook up a tow's trap or whatever here that you need to and have your vehicle towed. To remove it, just unscrew it. You can use this as a little lever. Pull it out. Put the little door back on. There's also one in the front if you need to be towed from the front. Again, you will need your flat-bladed screwdriver. There's a little opening here. Pop that cap out. It's got a little tether. It will sit there.
Inside, there's an opening. Slide the towing eye right in there, and just thread it in. Just use this to make it nice and tight. Just make sure it's nice and tight. Now, you can put your tow strap on here and your vehicle can be towed from the front. To remove it, just unscrew it, pull it out. Replace this cap. There's a little tab in there. Pop these in here. Put these back with the rest of your jack and tools.
