Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how to video helps you out and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to service the taillights on this 2005 Nissan Maxima; same as any 2004 to 2008 Maxima. We'll show you both. If you just need to change the bulbs, as well as if you have a broken taillight and you need to replace it with one from 1A Auto. Tools you'll need for the job are pretty basic. A flat blade screwdriver, an 8 mm wrench or an 8 mm socket with a ratchet, and a Phillips screwdriver.
For a taillight on one of these Maxima's, you want to come right around inside the trunk. You've got two plugs right here. Take a screwdriver. Pry out the middle, then the plug pulls out, same thing down here. Pry out the middle, and the plug comes out. Then, you want to just take your trim and pull it right back. Right here is your connection. It's just a little button right in the middle. Push that down. Release your connection. Two 8 mm nuts. Fast forward as I undo those nuts and I apologize that top one is just up out of the range of the camera, but you can see the bottom one right there.
If you're just looking to change a bulb, you don't need to do this. But if you're looking to change your whole taillight assembly, you'll want to push this plug through. Now this whole panel and everything comes off, so you want to shake it, loosen it up, and then you got to pull really firm. And your taillight comes off. If you're just looking to change bulbs. Turn these counterclockwise and they come out. The bulbs just pull right out of the sockets and back in. Obviously, my taillight is fine.
If you're looking to replace it with the taillight from 1A Auto, you would just undo these four Phillips screws and that releases this body part from the taillight. Then, you put that part on the new taillight. Put the four screws back in. Stuff your harness back into place. You want to make sure that the studs go into the holes and then these little pins line up and so I'm going to peek back in here. Make sure that I can see the studs on the trunk side and then I'm peeking over here to make sure that those little pins go into the grommets. Just lock it in place. On the inside, put our 8 mm nuts back on. Fast forward here as I just put those nuts back on and then use your 8 mm wrench to tighten them. Tighten them firm but don't over tighten them. Now plug your harness back in. Bring your insulation up. It should go underneath here. It goes underneath this plastic. This one has the hook. It goes in the top. Just going to fish it in there, put it in place. Push the lock.
I did kind of a poor job, but of filming this put the lower one back down in and push the center back in to lock.
