How to repair, install, fix, change or replace a dirty, dusty or clogged cabin air filter on 04 Subaru Impreza WRX
Flat Blade Screwdriver
Phillips Head Screwdriver
Hi. I'm Mike from 1AAuto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years!
Remove this clip. It just screws in. You use a Phillips head screwdriver to pop it out. Pull it right out.
There's a screw here on the bottom and then one over here. Remove those two with a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove that screw. Over here, take this screw out.
Open the glove box. I already emptied it. You need to remove the one, two, three, four, five screws here and the two that are inside the glove box. With all those screws removed, pull the whole dash and glove box assembly out.
There's a little harness for the glove box light snapped into the glove box like this, so I'm just going to push it out by bending the tabs in and just popping out the top. Take a small flat headed screwdriver and push in on this lock. Sometimes if you push it in tighter, then you can push out on the lock. Pull that apart. Take the glove box out.
Unplug the harness from the blower motor by pushing the lock. Bring it out. Pop this up and out of the way. Inside here is your cabin filter, so I'm going to pull up on this tab, pull up on this tab. Pull this door out. Just kind of put your fingers in here and get a hold of the filter. Pull it out. This one is pretty full of stuff. We're going to replace that.
We'll go to install your new air filter, cabin air filter. Make sure if it's got an arrow pointing in the direction of the air flow, it's going the same way as the original came out. So we want the air flow pointing towards the blower motor. This is what blows it through the car. I just have to squish it in here a little bit. It fits like that, just in place. Take our cover. These three tabs go inside the box. Push them up. Lock it in place. You can plug your blow motor back in. Lots more work.
Your glove box assembly, put it back in so it powers the light. Pop that back in place.
Reinstall the glove box. This pin here is going to snap into here and then reinstall all the screws. It helps if you open the glove box. Get this top screw first. Just reinstall all the screws again. Close the glove box. Install the two screws in the bottom. Finally, reinstall this push clip and screw it in place.
