How to replace the air ride suspension compressor on 09 Chevy Suburban.
13mm Socket
Socket Extensions
Rust Penetrant
Ratchet
Get the vehicle raised and supported. The air pump for the air suspension is behind the driver's side rear tire, located on the frame. These two bolts here, you actually don't loosen them. There are little studs that will slide off. There is a bolt up here. You're going to have to go through the frame. It's 13 millimeters, and unbolt it. Once it's unbolted, we'll knock this free. It'll come backwards. We'll pull it down, unclip from the connectors, but before we do that, we're going to follow this line up. There is actually a little pickup, probably where it picks up air. It's up here on the filler neck with a clip.
I'm going to take a prying tool and pry it off the barbed clip that it's on. There it is. It is snaking through a couple of other things here. Now I'm going to remove the 13 millimeter bolt that's up and through the frame. We'll get this pump loose, bring it down, and unhook the connectors on top. Going to spray some rust penetrant the best I can. It's a hole through the frame. I can feel the nut. I can't see it, but spray some rust penetrant in there. I know it's on a stud, so I'm going to use a 13 millimeter deep socket and an extension and a ratchet. It actually wasn't that tight.
These are studs that go through the frame and hold onto it. I shouldn't really have to loosen them, but maybe to relieve a little bit of pressure with this rust, I'm going to spray some rust penetrant on them right back here, too, to help them slide. Just give them a little loosen. They're 13 millimeter. It's coming loose. I'm going to grab it with both hands, just try to work it back and forth. There it is coming up and out. There's slots that come right out. Now it's still connected to the top, so I'm not going to let go of it. This line's actually already been disconnected. Disconnect the electrical connector. Disconnect this line here. Pull this. Pop the tab off. Pull this off. Pull the air pump out.
Here's the old air suspension pump from our vehicle and the new one from 1AAuto.com. As you can see, same set up. Comes with the bracket, comes with the stud on, the one single stud over here, the double studs over here where it hangs on the frame, same electrical connector, same air hookups.
When you go to install it, you'll want to remove this red cap and rehook the line that goes there. For now, we're going to leave it on until after it's installed to prevent any dirt from going in there. It's the same style air pickup area, little filter for it, rubber protector just like the original. This should fit in your vehicle and get your air suspension working for you just like originally. All right, we've got our pump.
Make sure you remove this red protective cap. Plug our air hose line back in. Plug our electrical connector back in. You may have to lift it as you plug it in. Just going to hang these studs into these slots here. I'm also going to put the front one in where it belongs. It's hung. Install our new nut. Go up to the frame. Tighten it down. I think it's tight.
Rehook up any air lines you disconnected. We're going to take the air filter part, place it back up under the filler neck where it clipped on, and the air pump is replaced.
