How to Install 6 12 Foot Soft Tri-fold Tonneau Cover 2002-08 Dodge Ram

In this video, we're going to show you how to install a tonneau cover on a Dodge Ram. This one's a 2008 1500. This particular tonneau cover will fit 2002 to 2008 Dodge Ram 1500s as well as 2003 to 2009 2500s and 3500s. No tools are required for this install. You’ll just need a new tonneau cover from 1AAuto.com.

Installation on these is a breeze. These clips, you want to have them buckled down to keep your tonneau cover from moving. We're going to pick it up. As you can see, it's a really light weight piece. Lay it down on your truck, and line up the edges so everything looks nice and straight. When you think you've got the top corner lined up where you want it, go ahead and close your tailgate. Unclip both buckles and carefully lay it out.

There is going to be a little bit of a bow to it, but that's to help keep the top of this stiff when you have it locked down. Take a look down the side of your truck and make sure that both ends look nice and even, right where you want them.Trying not to move it, go ahead and fold it back up. There’s no need to clamp it down this time.

Get into the bed and underneath the last fold of the tonneau cover. You see we have these hooks on either side on this flap and the last flap on the tailgate. We're going to fold it down out of the resting position. Move it over, you tilt it, and the whole piece snaps right out of this channel here. We need to move in to lock down onto our bed rail. Make note of where bed sits relative to the tonneau cover. Lift up, slide that lock in, straighten it out, get it to where you want to be, and rotate that plastic ninety degrees so it locks into a groove. See here, that this is the locked position, this here is the unlocked position. We'll go ahead and screw that on clockwise, the same way you would any nut or bolt. Bring it down nice and close and lock it in to check it. It could still use a little bit of tension there. That there feels good and tight. Make reference of the distance to the edge of your bed and repeat these steps on the opposite side.

Do the same thing. We’re going to snap this down to unlock it from the channel, move it over. Pop it out, pop into our channel over here, get it to the same locked position that it's in on the other side, and lock it down. Confirm that you're lined up, unlock the handle and tighten it down. Lock it down on there nice and tight. This cover's not going anywhere we don't want it to go.

Now we'll unfold our tonneau cover, make sure that you're lined up evenly on both sides of the bed, and open your tailgate. Now that we've confirmed the alignment, we'll release the rear tabs. Lock these up and out of the way. Fold up our cover, we'll snap our cover down to secure it for now. Put on these nice heavy duty clips on both sides, and make sure that that cover is locked down tight so it doesn't slide around on you.

Since we know that your cover is right where we want it to be, we'll take the four safety pins included in our kit and install them into the holes to keep anything from accidentally releasing it. We’ll lay out our cover, lock down our rear latches, and install the safety pins, and close our tailgate. Now our cargo is secure, out of sight and safe from the elements.

Well this tonneau cover is great for protecting your cargo and keeping it out of sight. Sometimes you may have to move something bigger and the tri-fold cover can get in the way. To show you just how easy it is to remove this, we're going to show you how in real time.

Open the tailgate, undo your pins and collapse your latches, fold them up, and lock them out of the way. Fold up your cover, lock the plastic clasps into place, remove these pins, lock these latches flat. Do the same thing over here: pin, latch, clasp, and remove your cover just like that
