How to Fix Rust on Your Car Before It Becomes A Hole

   • Sandblast or grind with a power tool as much rust from the body as possible (including any remaining pits)
   • Smooth the body down with a dual action sander and feather the spot out so that it's almost level with the paint

   • Protect other areas of the car with a plastic protective sheet
   • Border a small section of painter's tap around the rust spot
   • Leave a rattle can of primer in a bucket of warm water for 10 minutes

   • Shake the primer can well and apply it to the section while feathering it out
   • Let the primer dry
   • Apply a second coat if needed
   • Let the primer dry
   • Wet sandpaper and apply it to a sponge
   • Gently sand areas of primer that have feather out to smooth it
   • Wipe the area with alcohol cleaner and a rag

   • In a warm area that matches the recommended temperature on the can, wear a respiratory mask
   • Shake the paint can well and apply it to the section while feathering it out

   • Let the paint dry
   • If there is a drip spot, gently remove it with wet sandpaper

   • Apply clear coat to the area
