Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to change the oil on this 2001 Volkswagen Beetle with the 1.8 turbo engine. The items you'll need for this is a 10mm socket and ratchet, a T25 Torx bit or driver, a drip pan, oil filter wrench, oil, oil filter, and jack and jack stands.

Your oil pan is located right here. The plug is a 10mm bolt. Just go ahead and remove that. Make sure you have a drip pan underneath and then just let the oil drain out. When it stops draining, replace the plug and tighten it up.

Next, you want to remove these four T25 Torx bolts. You can see we are missing a couple. Just go ahead and remove those. Then just slide this panel back and down. Then, using an oil filter wrench, just loosen up your oil filter. Once you have that loosened you can just loosen it the rest of the way by hand. You want to make sure you have a drip pan underneath this because there will be oil trapped behind the filter and inside the filter. Now just wipe down the area.

Take some fresh oil and just rub it around the rim of your new oil filter. Then feed the oil filter up into place and tighten it. Tighten once the gasket seats, then tighten it another 2/3 to 3/4 of a turn. Then slide this panel back into place and replace and tighten up those four T25 Torx bolts.

Now lower your vehicle, remove your oil cap, and replace the oil. When you're done, replace the cap, start the vehicle, and let it run for a second so that the oil can circulate. Then shut it off, pull out your dipstick, wipe it clean, put it back in, pull it out, and check it. Add oil as necessary.
