Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
This may be familiar to you. Somebody tried to do a stealthy job of putting some duct tape. On the inside they used the duct tape a little more liberally. Peel this off. This video is really about window problems. After I peel it off, you see I can take my window and just move it by hand. Then, if I turn the key on and let it run, you can hear something running and grinding away, but obviously the window is not doing anything.
If your window has fallen down, usually you can hear a popping noise and then you'll hear all kinds of bad stuff when you try to use the window. That's generally your cable-style window regulator has failed.
Now, with the door panel off, you can see this cable is part of what drives the window mechanism. You can also see that somebody tried to put some wood in here and stuff to try to help support the window while it was broken, but a better idea is just to replace the regulator.
This is a Ford F150, but this problem happens on a whole bunch of different vehicles. At 1AAuto, we have a ton of different videos to show you how to change regulators for specific makes and models. You'll want to remove the door panel, get in there. It's actually a job that you can do with regular tools. Some vehicles require some drilling of rivets and things like that. But again, if you check our other videos for your specific make and model, you'll probably find a video to show you how to do it.
With the new regulator from 1AAuto, we can see the window will go up and down and you can remove your duct tape forever. No more need for duct tape.
