How to check and refill the power steering, brake, and washer fluid, coolant, and engine oil on the 05 Chevy Avalanche
Windshield Washer Fluid
Brake Fluid
Transmission Fluid
Anti-Freeze
Engine Oil
On this Avalanche, the brake fluid reservoir is here. There is a minimum and a maximum fluid level. Should at least be at the minimum, but somewhere in the middle is okay.
This is your washer fluid reservoir. Fill your washer fluid here.
This is your coolant reservoir. Wait until the vehicle is cooled before opening this. This line right here is where it should be when the vehicle is cold. So the full level, cold, is where you want your coolant to sit in the reservoir.
Check your oil level, pull the yellow dipstick, wipe it off, replace the dipstick, and pull it out. This is your high mark, and this is your low mark. Usually these little marks indicate quarts. This is nice and full. The oil is nice and clean. So I'm going to put the dipstick back in. If you need to add oil, the cap is here. It even tells you the weight. Turn it counterclockwise and then pull it straight up. It doesn't unscrew. It has a little groove for a pin that's in the filler neck here. Put it back on and then turn it clockwise to lock it in.
Check the automatic transmission fluid. You should have the vehicle running, but you'll unlock that, pull this out, wipe it down, and put the dipstick back in. Now pull it out. That would be the low mark. That would be the high mark. Should really check this actually when the vehicle is running because that way the fluid is running through the transmission, gives you a more accurate representation of how much is actually in there. This looks okay. It's nice and clear, clean. So I'm going to put this back in. I'll wipe up any stuff that spilled. If you needed to add fluid, you can put your funnel in here and pour your fluid in. Put the dipstick back in and lock it.
