How to change your oil on 09 Honda CR-V

step 1 :Opening the Hood
- Pull the hood release latch
- Release the safety latch
- Open the hood
- Insert the prop rod

step 2 :Checking the Oil Level
- Pull out the dip stick
- Wipe it off with a rag
- Insert it back in all the way
- Pull it back out
- Read the level
- Add oil as necessary to stay close to the full mark

step 3 :Closing the Hood
- Remove the prop rod
- Secure it in its resting clip
- Close the hood and lock it in place

We're gonna release the hood right by this foot rest. Grab the lever right there and pull it out. Now we're gonna pull up on the hood. The release is right here. Just push that up. Release the hood. Then you can grab the prop rod right here. Pull it up and stick it right there.
Here's your engine oil dipstick. What you can do is you can pull this dipstick out to check your oil level. We're gonna wipe it off with a rag. Reinsert the dipstick. Then pull it out again.
You can see that the oil level is in between the two dots, which is good, although it's more in the middle. You do want it closer to the higher dot. We could add about 1/4 of a quart of oil to this vehicle.
Reinsert the dipstick. It goes in this way just like that.
To add engine oil, the oil fill cap is right here. We're gonna unscrew it to the left. You can use a funnel and add your oil right there and then when you're done adding oil, you can just screw this cap back on.
Close the hood. We're gonna pull the prop rod out. Put it back in its holder and drop the hood.
