This video will show how to check and refill the power steering fluid correctly
Hey, friends. This is Len here at 1A Auto. Today we're working on our 2011 Mazda 3 and I want to show you something very basic: checking your power steering fluid. Super simple and it's right over here.
This is your power steering reservoir. That's the cap and here's the reservoir. You can see right up here it says maximum, and then there's a line all the way down there that says minimum. As long as your fluid's anywhere between the minimum and the maximum, you're doing all right. You want to have it somewhere up close to the maximum, not above the maximum. In all actuality, right where it's at right now is a perfect space for it because once this fluid heats up a little bit, it's going to expand. It's probably going to work its way up towards the maximum line. If it was all the way down near the minimum down there, you would just want to add a little bit of power steering fluid. Easy peasy.
To do that, all you would do, grab the cap, turn it counterclockwise until it comes up. Just check in there and make sure there's no cracks or anything on the seal. This looks good. Then you just add your fluid right there. You can use a little funnel if you want. We sell them on 1AAuto.com. Once your fluid's full and it's just below the maximum line there, You just take your cap, screw it on until it's nice and snug. Off you go.
