Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to service your four-wheel drive transfer case. This is a 2002 Chevy Suburban. This procedure is the same, though, for GM four-wheel drives from the late '90s up through the current period. This is recommended to be done every 50,000 miles. The items you'll need for this is an 18mm socket and ratchet, a drip pan, transfer case fluid, in this case Auto Trak-II, and a piece of hose or flexible funnel.

Your transfer case is located right here, and there's two 18mm plugs. The lower one is your drain plug and the top one is the fill plug. Just go ahead and remove the drain plug, making sure you have a drip pan underneath. Then remove the top one to help that flow out a little quicker. When it stops draining, replace your drain plug and just tighten it up.

Using a piece of hose or a flexible funnel, just put it into that fill hole, and then just fill the fluid into the transfer case. It's going to take more than one bottle, so, for the first bottle, to speed it up a little bit, you can just poke a hole in the top corner of the bottle. That'll just help push the fluid out. Then once it starts to overflow the fill, you can pull the hose out and then replace your fill cap and tighten it up.

Then just wipe down the area and you're all set.
