How To Change the Oil 2004-14 Ford F-150

Learn how to change your own oil! This video will show you with an 05-11 Ford F-150. The process is similar on other vehicles!

step 1 :Draining the Oil
- Raise the vehicle on jack stands
- Place a drain pan underneath the drain
- Remove the 16mm bolt from the drain
- Drain the oil
- Twist on the 16mm drain bolt
- Tighten the bolt with a 16mm wrench or socket and ratchet

step 2 :Removing the Oil Filter
- Remove the oil filter with an oil filter wrench
- Clean the area with a rag

step 3 :Installing the Oil Filter
- Place a layer of oil around the rim of the oil filter
- Twist the oil filter into place

step 4 :Servicing the Oil
- Remove the oil cap
- Place a funnel into the oil fill
- Insert 6 quarts of oil
- Replace the oil cap
- Start the vehicle
- Turn the vehicle off
- Check the oil level with the dipstick
- Fill the oil to the recommended level

In this video, we just quickly show you how to change the oil on this 2004 Ford F150, same as any 2004-2010. You can do this without jack and jack stands. You'll just need an oil drain pan, a 16mm wrench or socket and ratchet, and an oil filter wrench, as well as rags, oil and oil filter.
On the back side of the drain pan, this 16mm bolt will be a drain plug. Make sure that you've got a catch pan underneath.
Okay, the oil filter, coming down from the front, is kind of over the steering rack near the axle. Get an oil filter wrench on there and start it moving and remove it. And again, have the catch basin underneath the oil filter as it comes off.
Use a rag to clean any of the old oil off of the oil filter base. I've got a little bit of fresh oil right in there that I poured in. I'm going to lubricate the o-ring. Once it's seated I'm going to go three quarters of a turn.
And now we're going to wipe up any oil that we've spilled during the process.
Top it back up with just over 6 and a half quarts. Okay, once you've put about 6 quarts in, just start it up. Make sure you got good oil pressure, then check the oil dipstick and fill it with oil until it's at its recommended level.
