Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace your spare tire on your 2005 Cadillac CTS. This information is going to be very similar on any vehicle with a compact spare tire.

Open the trunk. Unscrew the hold down. Remove the carpet. Remove the second hold down for your spare tire equipment. Remove the spare tire equipment and carrier as well as the spare tire. Chock your wheel. If you don't carry a wheel chock with you, find a large stick or rock on the side of the road to keep the vehicle from rolling. If the front of the vehicle is facing downhill, place the chock at the front of the tire. If the rear is facing downhill, place the chock behind the tire. Always chock the tire on the opposite side of the same axle you'll be removing your wheel from.

Remove the equipment from your spare tire carrier, should all just pop out of its plastic containers here. Using your tire iron, loosen the bolts without removing them. Lower the jack until you can place it under the vehicle. We recommend that you keep a sturdy block of wood. If you’re not on a flat surface, you can use this to support and keep the jack level.

Place the jack under the car. Begin bringing it up. You can use your tire iron for the screw on this one. That hook is meant to secure onto the pinch weld of the vehicle. You can see there. Be sure that the jack is centered on the block of wood. Raise your vehicle up. Once the tire is off the ground, finish removing your lug nuts. Remove the tire.

Place it under the vehicle as a safety until you've completed installing your spare tire. Install your spare tire onto the hub. Start your lug nuts by hand. Once your lug nuts are installed all the way down by hand. Remove the tire from under the vehicle and lower your jack. Looks like our spare tire is low. This is a perfect example of why you should check the pressure in your spare tire every time you change your oil or every time you fill your tank. You don't want to be stuck on the side of the road and not be able to use your spare tire after all that effort to change it over.

We're going to remove our valve stem cap. Most spare tires take 60psi, but if you're ever in doubt, the pressure can be found on the side wall of the tire. That pressure is only true of the spare tire. On a regular street tire, the pounds per square inch rating on the side is the maximum psi, not the psi specific to your vehicle. Now that our tire's inflated, we'll finish removing our jack and our block of wood.

Tighten our lug nuts down in a cross pattern. Bring your jack up until it fits back into your spare tire tool carrier. Reinstall the tire iron. Reinstall the tool carrier. Since we don't have a full size spare tire, it's not going to fit under here with the tool. We'll reinstall these things partway so we can put our carpet hold down back into place and lay our tire into the trunk. Reinstall the carpet as well as the hold down. Lay the tire into your trunk.

Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
