What are Tapered Bearings and Why Use Them?

Tapered bearings are better than roller ball bearings at handling forces exerted on the bearing during cornering (known as axial load) in trucks and large cars.

Roller ball bearings have spherical ball bearings between two straight rings (called races). Tapered bearings use tapered rollers shaped like flat-topped cones and two races angled from the outside to the inside of the bearing. The greater the angle, the more axial load the bearing can handle.

Your model came from the factory with tapered bearings. This type of bearing handles cornering forces better for trucks and large cars. Roller ball bearings work well for smaller cars, but replacing a tapered bearing with a roller ball bearing will result in increased wear and faster failure.

Just what I needed
Hub bearing noises aren’t exactly something you wanna just turn the radio up and drown out the sound to. The price is cheaper than that radio you have. If you let the bearing go too long you’ll end up in a unwanted scenario on the side of the road. A couple dollars and a YouTube video paired with this part and your all set

Bad Part
Just installed this by the book, everything torqued to spec using a recently calibrated Snap-On torque wrench. The new bearing is louder than the old one.

When I order part was not sure if I could handle replacing the part by myself. I proceed to watch your video 2 to3 times to make sure before I started. It did not look to diffiicult. The end result,I got it done and myself 350. dollar. Thanks for the excellent video and sending the correct part, no running back and forth to the auto parts store like I have on other jobs. I will continue to used your web site for parts and video from now on.

Who makes the hub and bearing Assembly ?
Ralph R on Jun 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We have a few different aftermarket companies build these parts specifically for us, as our 1A Auto house brand. They are manufactured to the same OEM specifications as the original part that came with your vehicle. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
is this part american made?
steve on May 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It's been a while since I installed this bearing, but if I recall, it's not American made. This didn't change my opinion as this bearing offered an added (1) year warranty. I believe the warranty was (2) years compared to some domestic bearings that were only (1) year. On top of this, I've never been dissappointed with any of the products I Ordered from 1A Auto. They always back-up what they sell.
Are these new or rebuild parts?
Jesus C on May 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These parts are absolutely, positively "Brand new"!
