What are Tapered Bearings and Why Use Them?

Tapered bearings are better than roller ball bearings at handling forces exerted on the bearing during cornering (known as axial load) in trucks and large cars.

Roller ball bearings have spherical ball bearings between two straight rings (called races). Tapered bearings use tapered rollers shaped like flat-topped cones and two races angled from the outside to the inside of the bearing. The greater the angle, the more axial load the bearing can handle.

Your model came from the factory with tapered bearings. This type of bearing handles cornering forces better for trucks and large cars. Roller ball bearings work well for smaller cars, but replacing a tapered bearing with a roller ball bearing will result in increased wear and faster failure.

So far so good
Parts shipped as expected. Easy installation. Online installation ready helped to ensure I had all the right tools before starting the project. The parts mounted and connected as designed. So far, my truck runs smooth. Time will try if quality is as good as the really more expensive ones.

Great Stuff
Perfect fit. Arrived in three days with free shipping. And got two for $10 more than my LPS wanted for one! After reading the crappy reviews about the Duralast brand (AutoZone), I decided to take a chance with 1A Auto. Very happy, and will definitely be back!

So far so good
I bought these bearings, as well as 4WD vacuum actuators, for an 07 Ford f150. Installation went very smooth. My only complaint is that 1A Auto does not include the hardware needed for installation. I had to use the old bolts and nuts, which isnt necessarily a bad thing but I would have preferred to replace everything with new parts. It has only been two weeks since installation and things seem great. I will update after some time has passed.

Seems alright
Parts case pretty well packaged. Had no issues putting the new hubs on. Fitment was spot on, it’s a cheap hub though so don’t expect a forever bearing.

Wheel bearing hub assembly
Product came quickly, seems well made. Fit perfectly. As I have just installed not able to say how it will hold up long term but so far in 200 miles bearing system works good. Lines for anti lock brakes were perfect in layout and clip on. At this point I would recommend, for the price cant be beat

Ask a question to 1A Auto customers who purchased the product
Would I need to purchase the break rotors separate?
Ethan R March 2, 2016
The rotors are not included. What you see is what you get.
Phillip C March 2, 2016
Rotors are sold separately and are not included in this kit.
Brian F March 2, 2016
The brake rotor is separate from the wheel hub assembly. It would have to be purchased separately.
Michael V March 2, 2016
Yes you would need to purchase the break rotors seperate.
Joshua M March 2, 2016
Does it come with locking assembly?
James S April 10, 2017
Not exactly sure what you mean, but you get exactly what is in the picture, everything else is reused.
Philip R April 11, 2017
You will need to reuse the manual locking hub, or the auto locking hub and actuators. This is just going to be the wheel hub and bearing.
