What are Tapered Bearings and Why Use Them?

Tapered bearings are better than roller ball bearings at handling forces exerted on the bearing during cornering (known as axial load) in trucks and large cars.

Roller ball bearings have spherical ball bearings between two straight rings (called races). Tapered bearings use tapered rollers shaped like flat-topped cones and two races angled from the outside to the inside of the bearing. The greater the angle, the more axial load the bearing can handle.

Your model came from the factory with tapered bearings. This type of bearing handles cornering forces better for trucks and large cars. Roller ball bearings work well for smaller cars, but replacing a tapered bearing with a roller ball bearing will result in increased wear and faster failure.

Quality replacement parts
Quality replacement that fit PERFECTLY. While the price itself was worth it, I was pleasantly surprised just how well constructed the hub assembly was. This even came with replacement hardware that I wasn't expecting. I have found my new spot for car parts.

A very satisfied consumer LRB
I have nothing but good to say about the professionalism of the staff at 1A-Auto.In the past few months I and my family seemed to be hit by the auto Demon. It is bad enough that your vehicle has issues. But when you have to locate parts for repairs it can be very frustrating and expensive. I was very fortunate to locate 1A-Auto on the computer web site. Not only were the ppl I dealt with professional, they were very pleasant and proficient, the prices were very reasonable.also most of the parts I purchased had as life time warranty. They also provided a tracking number of which you could see when and where your parts would be delivered.

I have purchased several wheel barring from 1A Auto parts due to me having a Ford Explorer. The parts have always been delivered on time and have been quality parts. The prices are very reasonable and I have shared this site with as many women that I can. We need a reliable and honest source to buy parts. If only you could install them??. Overall I’m very pleased??????

Wheel bearing and hub Assembly ford explorer
I have used A1 before to do the upper arm assembly and upper ball joint for my Ford Explorer and the the parts arrived on time and intact. I watched the video on how to replace and completed the job in the estimated time. Sooooo I knew I was going back tot he website when I wanted to replace my front hubs. The video walked me through the installation and the parts matched wonderfully. I would recommend A1 for people who are willing to do the work. Prices are good and the videos are helpful.

will this fit the explorer xls 4x4 ?
josh b on Mar 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This will fit your Explorer XLS 4WD as long as your model is a 4 door model.
I see it says it fits a 2003 mercury montaineer. Mine is Awd and a 4.0 so will this still work? Not sure if that makes a difference
