Wear and Tear

This item is backed by a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under its intended use. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear. Please keep your invoice for proof of this warranty.

  1. step : Removing the Wheel (0:23)
    • Loosen the 21mm lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. step : Removing the Brake Pads (2:33)
    • Pry the brake pads into the caliper with a flat blade screwdriver to push in the pistons
    • Remove 14mm bolts from the brake caliper
    • Pull the caliper aside
    • Pry the brake pads off with a flat blade screwdriver
  3. step : Removing the Brake Rotor (6:22)
    • Remove 17mm bolts from the brake caliper bracket
    • Pull off the brake caliper bracket
    • Remove the plug from the rotor
    • Adjust the adjustor with a flat blade screwdriver to release the brake shoes
    • Pull the rotor off
  4. step : Preparing the New Brake Pads and Rotors (13:58)
    • Remove the brake pad slides
    • Apply grease to the caliper slides
    • Clip in the brake pad slides
  5. step : Installing the New Brake Rotor (18:47)
    • Clean the rotor with brake parts cleaner
    • Slide the rotor on
    • Thread on one lug nut to hold the rotor in place
    • Adjust the emergency brake adjustor
    • Plug on the dust cap
    • Put the caliper bracket back into place
    • Start the bolts by hand
    • Tighten the bolts to 58 foot-pounds of torque
  6. step : Installing the New Brake Pads (21:12)
    • Put an old pad in the caliper
    • Use a large C-clamp and the old pad to push the pistons back
    • Clean the pad surface with brake parts cleaner
    • Apply grease to the brake pad tabs
    • Install the new brake pads into the bracket
    • Put the caliper on
    • Add grease to the brake pad slide bolts
    • Thread bolts by hand
    • Tighten bolts to 32 foot-pounds
    • Remove the lug nut from the rotor
  7. step : Reattaching the Wheel (26:29)
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to between 76 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
  8. step : Testing the Brakes (27:45)
    • Pump your brakes repeatedly until they feel firm
    • Test your brakes at 5 miles per hour and then 10 miles per hour
    • Road test the vehicle
