Toyota Avalon Camry Windshield Wiper Transmission Linkage Bushing Dorman 49448 - 1ABMX00157

Snow, ice, dirt, and dust can interfere or damage your windshield wipers and the motion transmission mechanism. Broken or damaged bushings can cause the wipers to not work or work incompletely. These parts will also cause an annoying squeaking or grinding when they wear out. In general replacing windshield wiper transmission parts is not difficult. This may vary on some applications. It requires basic tools and removal and installation of small body parts such as cowl vent grilles. This replacement wiper transmission connecting rod bushings may be just what you need to get your windshield wiper system working properly again.

  1. step : Removing the Wiper Arms (0:45)
    • Use a piece of tape to mark the position of the wipers
    • Remove the 14mm nut from the wiper arm
    • Push down and up to loosen the wiper arm
  2. step : Removing the Cowl Panel (1:29)
    • Pry up the clips on each side of the cowl panel with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Pry up the cowl panel and weatherstrip on the passenger side
    • Remove the cowl panel from the weatherstrip
    • Repeat the process for the driver side
  3. step : Removing the Windshield Wiper Transmission (2:51)
    • Disconnect the windshield wiper transmission lead
    • Remove the five 10mm bolts from the transmission
    • Pull the transmission up and out
  4. step : Disassembling the Transmission (3:20)
    • Mark and arm and the motor below it for reinstallation
    • Mark the top arm
    • Pry up the top and bottom arms with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Mark the arms for reinstallation
    • Pull the arm out of the bushing
  5. step : Removing the Bushings (3:53)
    • Put the arm in a vice
    • Drill the old bushing out with a 1/4 inch drill
    • Repeat the process for the other bushings
  6. step : Installing the Bushings (4:30)
    • Press the bushing into the arm, press a socket to the bushing, and put them all in a vice
    • Use a vice until the bushing clicks in
    • Repeat the process for the other bushings
  7. step : Reassembling the Transmission (5:02)
    • Insert and press the arms into the bushing
    • Use a rubber hammer and lightly tap to keep them in place
  8. step : Reinstalling the Wiper Transmission (5:52)
    • Clean the area out with a vacuum
    • Insert the transmission down into place
    • Tighten the five 10mm bolts firmly but not too tight
    • Test the wipers for operation, and cycle them into the park position
  9. step : Reinstalling the Cowl Panel (6:22)
    • Insert the cowl panel on the driver side
    • Press the clips on the weatherstrip into the panel
    • Insert the passenger side in closest to the mirror first
    • Press the panel into the driver side panel
    • Clip the weatherstrip into place
    • Press in the cowl panel clips on both sides
    • Test the wipers for operation, and cycle them into the park position
  10. step : Installing the Wiper Arms (8:05)
    • Place the straight arm on the passenger side
    • Place the curved arm on the driver side
    • Tighten the 14mm bolts without tightening too hard
    • Remove the tape
