  1. step : Beginning the Repair (0:00)
    • This is Part 1 of a three part video
    • After following these steps, please consult Part 2 for further instructions
    • Perform the steps outlined in Part 2
  2. step : Removing the Battery (0:46)
    • Disconnect the negative battery cable with an 8mm wrench
    • Disconnect the positive battery cable with an 8mm wrench
  3. step : Removing the Engine Cover (1:02)
    • Pull up the engine panel and remove it
    • Remove the two 11mm nuts from the throttle body
    • Pry the hose off the back of the cover
    • Remove the engine cover
  4. step : Removing the Air Intake (1:25)
    • Disconnect the air sensor harness
    • Loosen the hose clamp on the air intake hose
    • Remove the vacuum hoses from the air intake hose
    • Lift the air box up and out
  5. step : Removing the Upper Radiator Shroud (1:57)
    • Place a drain pan underneath the engine
    • Push the teeth together on the hose clamp
    • Slide the coolant hose back
    • Remove the 13mm nut from the coolant hose bracket
    • Remove the bracket
    • Remove the bolts on either side of the radiator shroud
    • Pry the clip off from the refrigeration line from the radiator shroud
    • Remove the radiator shroud
  6. step : Removing the Radiator Fan (2:53)
    • Remove the fan bolts with a 10mm wrench
    • Pry the belt off the idler pulley with a screwdriver
    • Pull the belt off the alternator
    • Hold the water pump pulley with an adjustable wrench
    • Loosen the four 10mm bolts and remove two
    • Insert the fan pulley wrench into one of the holes
    • Loosen the fan clutch with a an adjustable wrench
  7. step : Creating a Harmonic Balancer Holder Tool (4:58)
    • Insert three M8 125 bolts into the holes on the harmonic balancer pulley
    • Insert a piece of wood against the bolts
    • Make a mark on the wood of where they are
    • Mark a straight line between the bolts to find a center point
    • Drill with a 3/8 bit where each of the bolts are marked
    • Drill a 1/8 hole in the center mark
    • Drill with a 1" wood bit on the center mark
  8. step : Removing the Harmonic Balancer Pulley (6:35)
    • Press the wood plank with the M8 bolts into the harmonic balancer pulley to hold the engine and crankshaft in place
    • Insert an 18mm socket and ratchet through the center hole and remove the harmonic balancer bolt
    • Thread the harmonic balancer puller tool on the 18mm bolt
    • Insert the end on the bolt
    • Push the M8 bolts into the puller tool
    • Mount the puller into the balancer
    • Tighten the puller with an adjustable wrench
    • Pull the harmonic balancer up and out
  9. step : Removing the Pulleys, Tensioner, and Brackets (7:59)
    • Pull off the water pump pulley
    • Remove any bolts attached to the front cover from the pulleys, tensioner, brackets, etc.
    • Thread the bolts back in their respective holes for safe keeping
  10. step : Removing the Power Steering Pump (8:49)
    • Spray the two stubs in the wheel well on the power steering pump with rust penetrant
    • Remove the two 13mm nuts
    • Remove the bracket
    • Remove the negative battery cable
    • Remove the 13mm bolts
    • Remove the two 8mm bolts from the lower fan shroud
    • Pull the lower fan shroud up and out
    • Remove the 10mm bolt from the power steering pump through the power steering pulley
  11. step : Removing the Valve Cover (11:01)
    • Remove all of the hoses from the valve covers
    • Disconnect the fuel injection harnesses
    • Remove the 8mm and 13mm bolts from the valve cover
    • Lift up on the valve cover and remove it
    • Remove the 8mm bolt from the bracket on the other side
    • Repeat the process for the other side
  12. step : Removing the Timing Chain Cover (12:40)
    • Remove the four 13mm bolts on the bottom of the oil pan from the timing chain cover
    • Pry the harness clips from the studs holding the timing cover
    • Remove the 18mm stud bolts from the timing chain cover
    • Remove the 13mm bolts on the cover and under the water pump
    • Disconnect the harness near the camshaft
    • Carefully remove the valve cover gasket
    • Pry the timing chain cover off lightly with a pry bar

Will this work for a 2000 Mustang GT sohc?

BEST ANSWER: I put this set on my 2001 Explorer. Not sure if your Mustanfmg has a Romeo or Windsor engine as there are differences between the two. However, 1says it is the right part you should be good to go. You will need the special tool to hold the cans in place so do order them. Auto zone didn't have them to rent where live. On my truck the bolt to the power steering pump was a pain so you may need a puller to remove the pulley on the pump. Finally, I didn't change the camshaft gears as they weren't worn enough for me to change them. Oh yeah, upgrade the cam tensioners to the cast iron parts as the plastic is kinda cheap and doesn't seem sturdy. Good luck! It isn't that hard but it will take some time to do.
