Should You Purchase This 6-Piece Suspension Kit?

This 6-piece aftermarket suspension kit is perfect for replacing the wheel hubs and ball joints on your SUV. 1A Auto has taken all the hassle and guesswork out of tracking down the individual parts for this repair. Included in this suspension kit are the left and right hubs, lower ball joints, and upper control arms. It's guaranteed to fit 2002-2005 Ford Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers, as well as, 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviators. The parts are built of the highest quality materials and meet or exceed the function of the OEM part. Because of that, they are backed by a lifetime warranty. These high quality suspension parts will help you get your front end functioning like new again.

Hubs, control arms, and ball joints are crucial parts of your SUV's suspension. The hubs connect the axles to the steering knuckle and allow the wheels to roll. The control arms and ball joints connect the steering knuckle to the suspension, while allowing the suspension to move up and down over the road. Rough road conditions, salt, and sand can wear down these parts. Both hubs and ball joints can get dirt and debris in their moving parts. That wears them out and causes them to fail. If your hubs wear out, you'll often hear a grinding noise when you take turns. Worn ball joints can make popping or creaking noises. Also, they can make your steering loose. Because they are subject to the same forces, you may want to replace your control arms, ball joints, and hubs together.

Installing hubs and ball joints, is a job we feel confident you can tackle. You'll have to remove the wheel and the brakes and then separate the hub from the axle and knuckle. You can watch a video that shows this process in the "How-To & Tools" tab. To replace the control arms, you'll have to unbolt them from the knuckle and from the frame, before attaching the new ones. To separate the lower ball joints, you may need a specialty tool called a ball joint press. Whenever you work on your suspension, you should get a professional alignment done.

What are Tapered Bearings and Why Use Them?

Tapered bearings are better than roller ball bearings at handling forces exerted on the bearing during cornering (known as axial load) in trucks and large cars.

Roller ball bearings have spherical ball bearings between two straight rings (called races). Tapered bearings use tapered rollers shaped like flat-topped cones and two races angled from the outside to the inside of the bearing. The greater the angle, the more axial load the bearing can handle.

Your model came from the factory with tapered bearings. This type of bearing handles cornering forces better for trucks and large cars. Roller ball bearings work well for smaller cars, but replacing a tapered bearing with a roller ball bearing will result in increased wear and faster failure.

Our steering and suspension components come pre-greased, sealed for long life, and do not require the extra maintenance typically required by greasable versions.
