Note: When replacing steering components, it is recommended to have a professional alignment performed on the vehicle afterwards. This will ensure proper tracking and even tire wear.

  1. step : Removing the Wheel (0:45)
    • Loosen the lug nut covers with a 19mm socket
    • Pull off the hub cap
    • Loosen the lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. step : Removing the Outer Tie Rod (1:15)
    • Measure the distance from the inner tie rod boot to the outer tie rod grease fitting
    • Note this measurement
    • Hold the outer tie rod with an adjusting wrench
    • Loosen the outer tie rod nut with another adjusting wrench
    • Remove the cotter pin from the tie rod castle nut with needle nose pliers
    • Remove the 17mm castle nut
    • Strike the steering knuckle with a hammer to loosen the outer tie rod
    • Twist off the outer tie rod and its nut
  3. step : Installing the New Outer Tie Rod (2:44)
    • Twist a new nut onto the inner tie rod
    • Twist on the new outer tie rod
    • Lift the outer tie rod into the steering knuckle
    • Measure the distance from the inner tie rod boot to the outer tie rod grease fitting
    • This should be the same as the measurement noted in Step 2
    • Fasten the castle nut onto the outer tie rod end
    • Put the cotter pin into place and bend it to hold it
    • Hold the outer tie rod with an adjusting wrench
    • Tighten the outer tie rod nut with another adjusting wrench
    • Tighten the grease fitting with a 7mm wrench
    • Fill the outer tie rod bearing with grease, using a grease gun
    • Clean the tie rod bearing
  4. step : Reattaching the Wheel (4:37)
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 100 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
    • Reattach the hub cap
    • Tighten the lug nut covers with a 19mm socket
