This replacement serpentine belt tensioner is just what you need to get your vehicle in good working order again! If you are hearing a whirring noise from the front of your engine or if your belt often screeches you may be in need of a new belt tensioner. This part commonly wears out between 60,000 and 70,000 Miles. If it fails suddenly it can leave you stranded.

  1. step : Prepare to Remove the Belt (0:35)
    • Locate your belt routing diagram, usually located near the radiator. Disconnect the battery.
  2. step : Remove the serpentine belt (1:05)
    • Use your 15mm wrench on the tensioner and turn clockwise to release the tension on the belt.
  3. step : Remove the idler pulley (1:48)
    • Use your 15 mm wrench on the bolt.
    • Pull the idler pulley up and out.
  4. step : Remove the Serpentine belt tensioner (2:25)
    • Use your T27 Torx bit to remove the bolt and pull out the tesioner.
  5. step : Replace belt tensioner (3:22)
    • Swap the bolt over and lower it down into place.
    • Mount the tensioner a little further counter clockwise than necessary and turn it clockwise till the pin locks into place.
    • Tighten the bolt to 35-40 ft lbs.
  6. step : Reinstall the idler pulley (4:37)
    • Use your 15mm wrench
  7. step : Inspect and replace serpentine belt (4:55)
    • Inspect the belt for breaks, cracks and imperfections.
    • Use the diagram and your wrench on the tensioner to replace the serpentine belt.
  8. step : Finish up (6:26)
    • Inspect all the pulleys, and reconnect the battery.
