BHA54122 Axle / Spindle Nut Torque Specification

  1. step : Removing the Wheel (0:21)
    • Pry the wheel cover off with a small pry bar
    • Unstake the axle nut with a punch and hammer
    • Loosen the axle nut with a 30mm 12-point socket and a large breaker bar
    • Loosen the 21mm lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. step : Removing the Brake Pads and Rotor (2:28)
    • Remove the 12mm bolt from the brake line bracket
    • Pry the ABS wire out of the knuckle with a trim tool
    • Loosen the bottom strut bolts with a 22mm socket and 22mm wrench
    • Remove the 12mm bolt from the brake line
    • Pry the brake pads into the caliper with a flat blade screwdriver to push in the pistons
    • Remove the 14mm slide pin bolts from the brake caliper
    • Pull the caliper aside
    • Remove the brake pads
    • Remove the 17mm bolts from the brake caliper bracket
    • Pull off the brake caliper bracket
    • Remove the Phillips screw from the rotor
    • Pull the rotor off
  3. step : Remove the Front Wheel Bearing Hub Assembly (5:54)
    • Loosen three 14mm hub bolts from behind the hub
    • Remove the lower strut bolts
    • Separate the knuckle from the strut
    • Remove the axle nut
    • Tap the axle out with a dead blow hammer
    • Loosen the last 14mm bolt
    • Tap the bolts out with a hammer
    • Remove the 12mm bolt from the ABS sensor
    • Remove the magnet from the hub
    • Remove the wheel hub
  4. step : Installing the Front Wheel Bearing Hub Assembly (16:30)
    • Apply white grease to the knuckle
    • Insert the dust shield into place
    • Insert the wheel hub to the knuckle
    • Press the axle into the knuckle
    • Tighten the 14mm bolts to the knuckle
    • Torque the bolts to 30 foot-pounds
    • Insert the bolts to the bottom of the strut by hand
    • Place the axle nut to the CV axle
    • Insert the abs sensor/magnet into place
    • Tighten the 12mm bolt to the sensor gently
  5. step : Installing the Brakes (21:18)
    • Slide the rotor on
    • Thread on one lug nut to hold the rotor in place
    • Put the caliper bracket back into place
    • Tighten the 17mm bolts by hand
    • Tighten the bolts to 101 foot-pounds of torque
    • Apply grease to the brake pad tabs
    • Install the brake pads into the bracket
    • Tighten the 12mm brake hose bolt to the knuckle
    • Remove the lug nut from the rotor
    • Tighten the 12mm bolt to the brake line bracket
    • Put the caliper on
    • Thread bolts by hand
    • Tighten bolts to 25 foot-pounds
    • Tighten the lower strut bolts with a 22mm socket, ratchet, and 22mm wrench
    • Torque the lower strut bolts to 177 foot-pounds
    • Tighten the axle nut
  6. step : Reattaching the Wheel (24:31)
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 76 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
    • Torque the hub nut to 159 foot-pounds
    • Press the wheel cover on
