Wear and Tear

This item is backed by a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under its intended use. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear. Please keep your invoice for proof of this warranty.

  1. step : Removing the Wheel (1:19)
    • Loosen the lug nut covers with a 19mm socket
    • Loosen the lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. step : Removing the Brake Pads (1:43)
    • Pry the brake pads into the caliper with a flat blade screwdriver to push in the pistons
    • Remove 1bolts from the brake caliper with an 11/16 socket
    • Pull the caliper aside
    • Pry out the pins from the brake pads
    • Pry the brake pads off with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Unclip the ABS sensor wiring harness
    • Remove 3/4 inch bolts from the brake caliper bracket
    • Pull off the brake caliper bracket
    • Remove the Phillips screws from the rotor
    • Pull the rotor off
    • If the rotor will not pull off, thread some bolts into the slot on the rotor, and tighten them to loosen the rotor
  3. step : Installing the New Brake Rotor and Brake Pads (5:48)
    • Clean off the hub with a wire brush
    • Slide the rotor on
    • Clean both sides of the rotor with brakes parts cleaner
    • Thread on one lug nut to hold the rotor in place
    • Put an old pad in the caliper
    • Use a large C-clamp and the old pad to push the pistons back
    • Apply grease to the caliper slide bolts
    • Clean the caliper bracket and brake pad slides with a wire brush
    • Put the bracket back into place
    • Start the bolts by hand
    • Tighten the bolts to 85 foot-pounds of torque
    • Apply grease to the brake pad tabs
    • Install the new brake pads into the bracket
    • Put the caliper on
    • Thread bolts by hand
    • Secure the caliper slide pin with locking pliers
    • Tighten bolts to 20 foot-pounds
    • Remove the lug nut
  4. step : Reattaching the Wheel (10:53)
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the 19mm lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 100 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
  5. step : Testing the Brakes (11:18)
    • Pump your brakes repeatedly until they feel firm
    • Test your brakes at 5 miles per hour and then 10 miles per hour
    • Road test the vehicle

BEST ANSWER: Hi Fred, look for a wire on the caliper. If it has one, it's a teves. If not, it's akebono!
